5 - 3 = 2, Day 98
I have shared a meal with my neighbors 3 times this week. We have this perfect little group of friends that I feel so lucky to know. Unfortunately one family is moving away at the end of next month, so neighbor time is really important right now. Tonight we shared pizza, vegetables from my garden, and white chocolate lemon basil bread from the farmer's market for dessert. Kat gave me a copy of a meal blessing that seems appropriate for today's post.Earth, we thank you for this food,
For rest and home and all things good,
For wind and rain and sun above,
But most of all for those we love.
Thanks for a lovely evening Kat. I will miss you, Neva, and Stuart when you move!

Hovering, Day 78
I think my family is starting to get tired of my camera always being present. Here I am hovering over my husband while he eats his dinner. The contrast between the white circle of the bowl and our blue table is hard to resist. Not to mention the diagonal line of the green chopsticks and the repeated circle of his arms. I am now one of those photographers who can't just eat a meal in peace, it must be observed and photographed...nothing is sacred anymore or maybe it never was.Wednesday, July 22, 2009
PB&J, Day 77
Nicolai is slowly learning to take on more and more responsibility. Today he demonstrated to me how he could make his own peanut butter and jelly burrito. He just needed a little help opening the jars. I had a roommate in college who didn't know how to make Top Ramen and I had to teach him. I was shocked because I had been cooking for myself since the age of nine. I am always amazed when parents do not teach their kids essential life skills.

Lunch, Day 43
Growing up my family always teased me because at lunch I usually would ask "What's for dinner?" I still ask my husband this question, but only because he is usually the one that will be cooking. It seems like I am constantly focused on the meal ahead. Either I am hungry much of the time, or it is difficult for me to live in the moment...well I know that it is. But I think it goes back to my primal self , the hunter/gatherer self and not knowing when and where that next meal will come from. I just have to be sure that there is going to be one, and then I am fine.Sunday, May 17, 2009
