Dream, Day 280

Last night I had a dream about taking my image of the day. I was on a bus and I asked two women who were identical twins sitting across from me if I could photograph them. I don't remember if they said yes or not. My dream was so much more interesting than my image for the day.

Wednesday ritual, Day 258

Our new Wednesday night ritual is to go out to dinner. This is the second week of our weekly family feeding. We chose a Nepalese restaurant we having been driving by for years, but have never tried. It's difficult to not talk about our new business 27/7 but we made an effort to reign it in tonight and just enjoy our meal.

Inside out, Day 238

Bloody noses seem to be common in our house this winter.

Holiday decorating, Day 223

I have been sick in bed most of the day, but the one thing I managed to do was paint Nicolai's toes.

?, Day 213

This looks nothing like the actual object....I think that's why I was so drawn to this image.

Blinded, Day 173

Tonight I drove home in a snow storm. It was extremely difficult to see more than a few feet in front of my car because of the way the snow was falling. It felt like I was driving in this endless blizzard. I took comfort seeing the tail lights in front of me leading the way. Although not the safest idea, I couldn't help but try to visually capture the experience.

Over ripe, Day 146

Tonight the temperatures are supposed to drop to 38 degrees. The garden is on its last legs and I fear much of what we still have will not make it much longer. I savored the tomatoes at dinner tonight thinking that it will be some time before I eat a tomato that really tastes like a tomato.

The ride, Day 131

Now that I am back to work full time I have days where I am finding it difficult to photograph. Tonight Nicolai and I went out for a walk/ride and I decided to play with the camera. It was a nice way to spend some time together after another long day.

End of the season, Day 118

I started thinking that the image I select each day acts like a swatch or a sample from the day. It gives me (you) an idea of what happened during the day but it really doesn't give an accurate account- more like a taste. It's like taking a bite off of someone else's plate and perhaps being satisfied with what you ordered or longing for what they have. I guess what I am starting to realize is that I am offering up bites from my plate.

Fresh, Day 97

We tend to travel quite a bit during the months of July and August and of course this happens to be the season when the garden is overflowing with vegetables. Nicolai and I spent a good amount of time this evening picking zucchini, cucumbers, green beans, green bell peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, and chilies. We can't possibly eat everything right now so the neighbors will hopefully help us out. It was also a reminder that I live an abundant life and that I have all the basics covered and more. For this I am thankful.

Happy feet, Day 96

My mom wrote me a wonderful email this morning about looking at the struggles we all share within ourselves and with others. The challenge is how to be more compassionate when I start to judge. I can be very defensive and reactive when I get angry or feel wronged by someone. She reminded me today that these are life lessons and life work! I know that when I am making art that I learn from my failed pieces or mistakes the most. It's easy for me to write about this since I am not in conflict with anyone, including myself, at the moment. But when it does arise I need to not take it so seriously, but acknowledge the experience as part of the learning to be human process. Then I know it will be time to get out the smiley face stickers.

Not a girl, Day 21

I have never cut my son's hair. . It has several shades of red, gold, and blond and it is just too beautiful to butcher. He is constantly being mistaken for a girl. He could be wearing all "boy" clothes and people still think he is a girl. I am even a little surprised when men with long hair make the mistake as well. Not that it really matters...he doesn't care one bit, yet. We recently read a book about how babies are made and in it they listed all the similarities between boys and girls- but long hair was definitely not a characteristic that they could share.

There's no place like home, Day 15

Red shoes make me happy. I love looking down at my feet with them on. When I wear them they always seem to take me somewhere exciting, like Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz. Even if they just take me into my backyard.
